Moving Forward in the New Year

As 2007 is quickly coming to a close, many people reflect on the events of the past year and start to plan for the New Year. If 2007 found you considering starting a home business, but never getting past the thinking stages, then NOW is the time to decide to take action.

If you have explored some of the options for starting your own business, then you are well aware of the unending options. It is very easy to fall into the trap of information overload. I have fallen into this trap and can only say that it is difficult to find a clear path out of the resulting confusion.

The question of how do you sort through all of the information and decide what course of action you should take is not an easy one to answer. But sorting through the myriad opportunities is imperative if you are to take action.

I found that one of the most important elements in determining whether to consider a business opportunity was to look at not only the opportunity but also the person presenting the opportunity. It is important to learn about the person promoting the business. Learn if they have been in business for any length of time and if they have succeeded in the business.

As you get started in business, it is crucial to select a mentor who has not only succeeded financially, but who has also succeeded in establishing themselves as someone who is honest and ethical.

Is it Possible to Run a Home Business While Continuing to Work?

Many people ask themselves if it is really possible to run a home business and still continue to work at their office job. The answer is yes. This may surprise some people. How is it possible to have the time? Many wonder if it is too much work to do at one time. How can you manage?

All of these comments and questions are involved in juggling a home business and an outside job. But the key is to realize that you are capable. Here are three main things you want to keep in mind in order to pursue both jobs.



Drive! The want or desire to have a home business is what really matters. If you want to keep your current job as well as begin your own home business you truly have to be focused on being able to do so. Without a strong want that will drive you to do what is necessary you will lead yourself to failure. If you believe that you are ready to commit to both jobs, and do whatever is necessary to maintain both then you are taking your first step in the right direction.



Time! You aren't just given a pocket full of time. Everything in this day and age is about rushing and stretching what time we have. This is still very true with juggling outside work and a home business. You have to be willing to make time. What this means is you must be willing to use whatever free time you have from your office job and apply it to your home business. Weekends, evenings as well as holidays can be spent working on your home business. As long as you are applying the time you have to your home business, you can work both. It all goes back to having the drive to do what is necessary to have what you want.



Patience! This is something we all need more of. You will need to build patience when running both your home business and outside work. You will indeed be frustrated at times, waiting for packages or updates on business progress. You will be frustrated with customer or clients from both jobs. By building patience and also some understanding you will help ease some of the stress that comes from working both jobs.



Drive, Time and Patience all go in hand when working both a home business and an outside office job. You have to be efficient with your time and manage it wisely. Keep focused on your goal. Don't lose track of your goals. Be patient, because success does not happen overnight. As long as you make the effort, you can in fact run a home business and work in the office to.

Making Your Home Business a Success

What type of business you operate from the home is totally up to you, but there are certain things that you will need to do to help insure its success. While visions of living large comes immediately to mind for many who choose to run their own home-based business, they often forget that it is a business. Running a home business often gives people the misunderstanding that they can dictate every part of their operation and while there are many aspects of a home business in which they are completely in charge, customers and clients will also have input on many functions.



The first thing needed to run a successful home business is a set schedule. It may be easy to stay up late to watch a movie and repeatedly hit the snooze button on your alarm clock, but when dealing with clients over the phone you really do not want them to think their early morning phone call rousted you from a sound sleep. While having a lot of free time may be appealing and taking naps in the middle of the day may be attractive, keeping regular hours is important to any business.



Make sure your office is only used as an office. In addition to the tax benefits of carving out a space used strictly for work, you will also have the feeling when you walk into the room in the morning that it is time to go to work. Similarly, when the day is over and you leave the office you need to feel as though you have gone home for the day. Just as you want to keep family distractions out of the office, you need to keep work distractions out of the rest of the house.



Being professional in all business dealings when in your home office will help preserve your image as a business owner. If you cannot afford a separate telephone line for the business, during your normal business hours answer the phone in a professional manner.



Unless your business is the field of dreams, simply building it will not guarantee customers will show up. Advertising ad marketing is essential to any business, even those run exclusively online. Chances are there is no sign in front of your home that indicates you are open for business, inviting passers-by to stop in and see what you have to offer. The only way anyone knows you are there is through advertising.



Build a website, even if you will not be conducting any business online. It can serve as your web-based sales pamphlet and include information about you, your experience and your business. Including prominent contact information on the first page of your website is a key to obtaining more business, but you should also have a contact form available for people to simply send in a request for information or for answering questions.

Leisure Audio Books is working for me as I write!

I recently became a member of Leisure Audio Books, and I want to share my humble opinion with you today.

This is like nothing I have ever experienced before, I was shocked to find that is totally unique, never seen before, and I believe it to be revolutionary, and I'll explain why.

In my past experience, you join a typical program, they give you some cheesy promo tools, and they never say a word to you, they just expect you to go out and recruit as best you can on your own...

If you are going to become a successful affiliate on the Internet, you need 3 "intangibles." These are things that must come from WITHIN you.

First, you must have a strong WHY.

The good news is that the cost of failure on the Internet is very small. In the "brick and mortar" world you need to evaluate things very carefully before you decide to open up a business. It's almost always necessary to invest thousands of dollars to get an offline business off the ground. However, on the Internet you can often start a successful business for less than $100.
